Bhubaneshwar is the capital and largest city in the Indian state of Orissa. The renowned German architect Otto Koenigsberg designed the modern city of Bhubaneshwar in 1946. The city is also known as the "Temple City of India", as it contains a large number of Hindu temples.
Bhubaneshwar was designed primarily to be a residential city with outlying areas of industry. Until the 1990s the city had no major investor and was dominated mainly by public sector units, small scale manufacturing and retail. Today, Bhubaneshwar is one of the most preferred investment destinations in India.
Bhubaneshwar is ranked the fifth largest city of India's fastest growing real estate terms. Has the holy cities of Puri and Konark and attracts many pilgrims and tourists each year.
Transport Infrastructure
Bhubaneshwar has well developed roads and houses the headquarters of the state of Orissa Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC). Even the headquarters of the East Coast Railway is in Bhubaneshwar. Through the Daily Express, the weekly train passengers and is connected to major Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Gwalior, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, Jaipur and Ujjain.
Bhubaneshwar is also home to the only domestic airport Orissa, the Biju Patnaik Airport, also known as the Bhubaneshwar airport. It has regular flights to major destinations in India.
Economy
Bhubaneshwar has emerged as one of the fastest developing semiconductor and IT centers in India. The state government has encouraged the growth of IT in Bhubaneshwar by building IT parks such as Infocity 1 and 2 of the new Infocity. Information about the city was conceived as an IT park five stars, according to the Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP) Scheme.
Bhubaneshwar is also home to renowned IT companies like Satyam Computer Services Ltd. and Infosys, who have been in Bhubaneshwar from 1996-97. In February 2008, another esteemed company, Wipro, began operations in Bhubaneshwar. This state also has earned a special distinction of being the first city to accommodate the main four Indian IT companies, namely Infosys, TCS, Wipro and Satyam Mahindra.
He has also attracted foreign companies like NetHawk (Telecommunications Company of Finland), IBM, Robert Bosch and Gennum Corporation (Canada).
Future plans for the City
The Vision 2030 Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) framed by the Department of Architecture and Planning at IIT Kharagpur, ideated integration of two great cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar in a single urban complex 720 kilometers square.
This Vision 2030 aims at the transformation of Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar in a world-class urban center to create investment opportunities for domestic and foreign sources.
The Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) strives to create textile parks and urban centers Prime Bhubaneswar - Cuttack Urban Complex. It also provides network promoting intra-regional mass transport by improving the air and rail connections. It also aims to promote tourism through film projects in the city, theme parks and travel circuits, as peoples art, nature trails and the Palace-on wheels.
The PDC has also suggested the creation of oriented cities in the subject lines of education, health and software. A Special Tourist Park is also expected to facilitate tourism in the Corridor of Bhubaneswar, Puri-Konark.
